10 Analysis Workspace Tips Every Analyst Should Know

Analysis Workspace is powerful, but most analysts only scratch the surface. Here are 10 tips that will make you faster, more productive, and help you uncover deeper insights.

Adobe Analytics Analysis Workspace Dashboard Tips

1. Master Keyboard Shortcuts

The fastest analysts rarely touch their mouse. Analysis Workspace has dozens of keyboard shortcuts that can dramatically speed up your workflow.

Essential Shortcuts

Ctrl/Cmd + S Save project • Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + S Save as • Ctrl/Cmd + G Go to panel • Alt + Shift + 1 Collapse all panels

2. Use Quick Calculated Metrics

Instead of building calculated metrics in the component manager, you can create them directly in your freeform table. Just select two metrics, right-click, and choose "Create metric from selection."

These "quick" calculated metrics work just like regular ones but are scoped to your current project. Perfect for one-off analyses where you don't want to clutter your component library.

3. Leverage Anomaly Detection

Anomaly Detection automatically identifies statistically significant spikes and dips in your data. Instead of manually scanning for changes, let the algorithm surface what matters.

Pro tip: Set up Intelligent Alerts based on anomaly detection to get notified when something unusual happens—no need to constantly check dashboards.

4. Build Reusable Templates

If you find yourself rebuilding similar analyses repeatedly, save them as templates. Go to Project → Save As Template, and your team can start new projects with your pre-built structure.

Template Ideas

Weekly performance review • Campaign analysis framework • Product launch dashboard • Executive summary template

5. Use Segment Comparison

The Segment Comparison panel automatically identifies statistically significant differences between two segments. It's incredibly powerful for understanding what makes your best customers different from the rest.

Drop two segments into the comparison panel, and Workspace will show you which dimensions and metrics are most different between them—ranked by statistical significance.

6. Create Dynamic Date Ranges

Instead of hardcoding dates, use rolling date ranges like "Last 30 days" or "This month to date." Your dashboards will automatically update without manual intervention.

For more complex needs, create custom rolling date ranges. For example: "Same period last year" for YoY comparisons, or "Last complete week" to avoid partial data.

7. Use Attribution IQ

Attribution IQ lets you compare how different attribution models affect your metrics. Instead of committing to one model, see how first-touch, last-touch, linear, and algorithmic attribution tell different stories.

Right-click any metric and select "Compare Attribution Models" to see them side-by-side. This is invaluable for understanding which marketing channels truly drive conversions.

8. Export to PDF with Custom Branding

When sharing analyses with stakeholders, use the PDF export with custom branding. You can add your company logo and customize colors to make reports look professional and on-brand.

Go to Project → Download PDF, and configure your branding settings in the Company Settings area of the Admin Console.

9. Use Cohort Tables for Retention

Cohort analysis is essential for understanding user retention and lifetime value. Workspace's Cohort Table visualization makes this easy—no SQL required.

Create inclusion criteria (how users enter the cohort) and return criteria (what counts as a return). Watch how retention changes week over week, and correlate drops with product changes or campaigns.

10. Curate Components for Clarity

A cluttered component rail slows everyone down. Use curation to show only the dimensions, metrics, and segments relevant to your project. Your stakeholders will thank you.

Curation Best Practices

Create curated report suites for different teams • Hide deprecated components • Add descriptions to explain what each metric measures • Group related components with tags

Bonus: Share Your Workspace Knowledge

The best way to become an Analysis Workspace expert is to teach others. Document your best practices, create training materials, and build a culture of data literacy in your organization.
